Mr. Smith Goes Back to Washington
Mr. Smith Goes Back to Washington is an animated satire that reimagines the classic 1939 film as a surreal, politically fractured series for a post-truth America. Built entirely from scratch, this project combines archival audio, glitchy 2D animation, and hand-cut visual layers to explore the absurd theater of modern democracy.
Above is the official trailer, and below are selected scene excerpts from the concept series. Each was designed, animated, edited, and sound-designed by me as a proof-of-concept for a show that could live somewhere between Adult Swim, The Daily Show, and a fever dream of C-SPAN.
Episode 1: “Opening Titles”
Stylized glitch sequence introducing the tone and world of the show.
Episode 2: “Filibuster Fragment”
Surreal remix of congressional speech and breakdown.
Episode 3: “House Floor Mayhem”
Fast-paced composite montage of civic dysfunction.
This project was a creative experiment in tone, timing, and animated satire—built entirely solo to explore what political storytelling could look like in the age of algorithmic attention spans.
